No, you're not expected to do that. I don't do that. In fact, I would
argue that I spend *less* time futzing with Linux then I would with
Windows, however my only frame of reference is Windows users I speak with.
Yes, please do hack the kernel, come up with the "killer" plugin for Open
Office, etc, etc, but there's no requirement to do so. You're free to
just be a user (leech).
Not to say that the attitude you allude to doesn't exist, it does, it's
just less prevalent then perhaps it was in the past. Preferably you'll
"contribute" in your own way. Wasn't it Mr. Spock who said "...and from
each according to their abilities?" ;)
