Wrangling the web into an open future

| "Yeah," Baker agrees. "By open source standards we're a giant, and we have an
| unbelievable amount of resources; and compared to [Microsoft], we're a gnat.
| We sit in the middle of many things, and finances are clearly one of them.
|
| "One of the things we do is keep a healthy bank account, so that if something
| should change, we have the resources to figure out our next plan. Google has
| been an extraordinary partner and does not try to tie the revenue
| relationship to what our product is, but I think everyone's pretty reassured
| that we're not living hand-to-mouth. If something were to go wrong, we have
| some savings."

"Microsoft: still a bunch of gangsters."

It has just occurred to me that on top of the EU fines and the Yahoo |(to-be)
debt, Microsoft will have the class action for Vista lies to pay for. Oh
Lordy! No wonder the company invests in scared shills instead of new decent
products.

600,000,000 Add-on Downloads
,----[ Quote ]
| Earlier this week, [addons.mozilla.org] served its 600 millionth add-on
| download. That’s original downloads, not including updates. We currently have
| over 4000 add-ons hosted on the site and between 800,000 and 1 million
| downloads every day. The site has around 4.5 million pageviews per day, not
| including services hosted on AMO such as update checks and blocklisting.
|
| AMO now receives around 100 million add-on update pings every day, which
| means that of those 600 million downloads, about 100 million add-ons are
| still installed.

'We're Huge in Finland!' Firefox Hits New High as IE7 Lags
,----[ Quote ]
| Mozilla Firefox continued its slow but steady march against the worldwide

| browser continues to sit firmly in second place behind IE, where it's been
| for years, usage of Firefox is still on the rise. The browser is even
| threatening to tip the scales in some European countries -- most likely
| thanks to the rapid internationalization efforts made possible by the
| open-source development model.
