Well, to be fair, the equipment was typically very well engineered, the
Beolit 600 is probably the best analogue consumer radio ever built, and
the Beovision 3500 remains by far the best PAL television ever made.
Subsequent models have become less and less good, of course.

I agree that their audio equipment, whilst a significant cut above the
economically priced marketplace, was never really in the same category
as a Quad, Leak, IMF, SME etc.  Even so, the equipment always /looked/
wonderful, so it had a peculiar following, and was well built.

I provided my parents with a Beogram 1500, which had been second-hand,
so I repaired it, removed the "loudness" wiring from the volume control,
and got them a set of respectable loudspeakers.  They used it for about
20 years before it finally failed in an unrepairable way.  You can't
argue with the build quality!
