Can you please elaborate? Is the action of merely /reading/ an HTML-formatted
E-mail in KMail leading to clog-up of GIF's in your home directory? If so,
it should not.
It is not uncommon for KMail to show you graphics from HTML E-mail as files.
This may protect you from visually-rich spam.
