Hi,

KBiff connects to your POP3 server or tunes in to your local mail directly.
it does not need to depend on any particular application. If I recall
correctly, you can configure KBiff to launch your favourite application when
a certain signal is received or a mouse-click is detected.

If you are already fetching mail with Evolution and wish for KBiff to detect
its state (e.g. new mail in inbox), why not use the notification system that
Evolution has, possibly one which integrates with the WM panels?
Thunderbird, for example, has an extension for that, which work in IceWM,
KDE, and GNOME...
