No, it wasn't.  It was created, like the web, email and other such tools,
for dissemination of information.  It simply happens to have a mechanism
for doing this which generally involves conversation.

The news posts - in a *news*group, imagine that! - are doing exactly what
all such venues are for - disseminating information.  If you want to
discuss them, feel free.  If you don't, fine.  If you want to whine about
it, why bother?  Killfile him and move on.  Or filter the posts and move
on.
