The standard complaint about other word processing packages is that they
don't open word properly. If the formats were standardised, then that would
no longer be an issue. There would then eventually be a move to save money.
This is when there would be mass migrations away from Office, which of
course would hit Microsoft's bottom line.

Once people are no longer dependent on Windows applications, they are no
longer dependent on Windows. It is at this point, that governments will
look at Microsoft's very deep pockets and will start to plan to get some or
all of that money. It is clear where that road goes.
