I think that the desktop market is going to both fragment and wane,
some fragments will belong to the mobility space (eg., openmoko,
android, access, Asus Eee, Nokia 810 etc.), some to the domestic
appliance space (eg., PS3, mythtv boxes), and what's left will be split
between gaming machines, such as they will be, a shrinking market as the
consoles continue to improve and games fail to make any new ground which
can be addressed using greater GPU or CPU power, and the remnants of the
once huge desktop PC market, with those people who still want to provide
desk-space for cabinets and monitors whose only use is, err, desktop
computing...
