You don't need anywhere near a high-end machine to run Vista, though you do
need a good bit of memory - 2gb seems the sweet spot for the best
experience.
And even though memory is real cheap nowadays ($80 after rebate for 2gb of
decent Crucial memory

ridiculous amount of memory for a desktop OS.
