Media Duped Again on 'MicroHoo' Rumor

,----[ Quote ]
| The Business Press Maven is not saying that every calcified, discredited
| rumor needs to be detonated on the spot, killed in the crib. Far be it for me
| to be so brash.

Open source acquisitions, time to grow up?

,----[ Quote ]
| A bit of teenage angst is cropping up in speculation about acquisitions of
| open source software companies. With the $500 million buy of XenSource by
| Citrix Systems Inc. and previous buys by RedHat Inc. and Oracle Corp. last
| year, open source software providers have become viable targets despite
| worries about lack of sales and compromised code that could lead to legal
| disputes.
| [,,,]
| ...buying an open source company isn't always about creating new code.
| Sometimes it's about controlling a rival to a proprietary software business.
| Few principled open source CEOs would sell their firms based on that premise
| for anything — except of course the highest price. As that happens, open
| source deal making will do the inevitable and grow up.

This should get antitrust regulators going. They (FTC) concentrate on Intel's
latest abuse at the moment. Microsoft is once again buying rivals. This was an
accusation made in Iowa as well. This is not capitalism. It's predatory.

Intel to Reply Soon to Antitrust Queries

,----[ Quote ]
| It is not common for the Federal Trade Commission, which issued a second
| request for information to Intel last week, to ask for more information on
| such mergers.

Will Microsoft Buy the New Citrix?

,----[ Quote ]
| VMware, holding some 85 percent of the market, with its VI3 technologies
| offers a fully integrated stack and represents a third generation of
| virtualization technology, while Viridian and Xen-based products, including
| SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, XenEnterprise
| and Virtual Iron, remain second-generation products, the report stated.

Heady Days for Virtual Systems

| The former Microsoft Latest News about Microsoft general manager is
| now vice president of XenSource, a Palo Alto, Calif., virtualization
| company with a growing outpost in Redmond, Wash.
