Linux, How Do We Love Thee?
,----[ Quote ]
| Indeed, judging by the emotion that gushed forth through the Linux
| blogosphere on and around the holiday, Linux geeks have a serious pent-up
| supply of love to share. Interestingly, a remarkable amount of that affection
| was expressed through -- or even for -- Linux itself!

Are Mac users snobs? “The Street” thinks so
,----[ Quote ]
| Mac users “self centred, arrogant, conceited”. Out of the Mindset Media study
| of 7500 Mac and PC users, “Mac users do really think they are superior”. They
| think they are “self important, extraordinary and more intellectually
| curious”.
|
| But The Street doesn’t stop there. Apparently Mac users “rack in the credit
| card bills buying at least 5 new pairs of sneakers in the past year”. Those
| surveyed with “open personality” said they were 60% more likely to buy a Mac

Why Larry loves Linux (and he’s not alone)
,----[ Quote ]
| How? Last quarter, the business software giant pointed out that its database
| market share actually tends to improve when customers move to Linux, which
| has been a fast-growing server operating system for much of the decade. And
| Oracle is poised to capitalize on open-source trends in other ways. For
| instance, the company distributes Linux for free, and makes money by offering
| support.
|
| So far so good: earlier this year CEO Larry Ellison reported that Oracle is
| in the early stages of selling high-margin Linux support contracts, some for
| as much as $500,000 a pop. Ellison claims the open-source strategy is also
| helping to lure database business away from competitors. “We’re just taking
| share right away from IBM on mainframes and we’re taking share away from
| Microsoft using Linux,” he told analysts in September.

The Linux Motion Picture Pipeline
,----[ Quote ]
| Within the industry the assembly line of hardware and software used
| for making movies is called a studio pipeline. Linux is preferred because
| it scales well and is compatible with tens of millions of lines of unix
| code the studios have developed internally over the years. All the
| large studios use Linux as their primary OS for desktops and server
