I Drank the Kool Aid

,----[ Quote ]
| Despite years of resistance, I am now a Kubuntu user. It's taken a lot to get
| me here, but if you're interested, hang on to your hat.

Linux, take 14 (Ubuntu 7.10 Review)

,----[ Quote ]
| The verdict: We’ve come a long way. Installation not only took minutes, but
| found all of my hardware without trouble, including enabling all 3D functions
| of my graphics card and detecting an obscure USB WiFi adapter. I am impressed
| thus far.

Eight Distros a Week: Xubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft

,----[ Quote ]
| Of all my portables (and there have only been three), the connectivity of
| Xubuntu deserves special mention. Despite the fact that Apple’s Airport
| wireless card has yet to be connectable with any distro — and my guess is
| that it may never be (thanks, Steve) — the wired connection, whether in my
| house or in the computer or networking labs in Cabrillo College, has never
| failed; neither has the iBook had to be reconfigured. I know this ranks way
| up there in the miracle department, but it’s true (and maybe I’m just lucky).
| This is not a complaint, but rather I’m sort of awed by this phenomenon that
| I can’t explain — and, sadly, I can’t repeat this “miracle” with my
| Intel-based hardware.

New Default Ubuntu Wallpaper

,----[ Quote ]
| After installing all of the latest updates to Ubuntu Hardy Heron, I noticed
| they made a major change to the theme: there is a new default wallpaper on
| the GNOME desktop. It is still based on the brown Ubuntu color scheme, but at
| least it is more cheery. I wonder if this thread had anything to do with the
| sudden change…

Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit - Austin, Texas - April 8th to 10th, 2008

,----[ Quote ]
| I can understand that philosophy. If the Linux Foundation opened up the doors
| to all (estimated) 60,000,000 Linux users, they would need a city much larger
| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
| than Austin, Texas (and Texas is the United State's second largest state) to
| hold the meeting.

| Okay, now lets tie this all back in together. Novell claimed several months
| back in a video ad that Desktop Linux users accounted for upwards of
| 30,000,000 different people. That's 30 million. Recent statements made by
| some Novell representatives indicate that they expect there are upwards of
| 50,000,000 Desktop Linux users. Microsoft has never contested the number of
| Desktop Linux users, and if anything the deal Microsoft signed with Novell
| was tacit agreement that Microsoft believed those numbers to be accurate.

Survey Says … Linux Desktop Is Ever More Popular

,----[ Quote ]
| The first thing we can say about the Linux desktop in 2007 is that there are
| more users than ever. The Linux Foundation 2006 survey had fewer than 10,000
| people signing in. This year more than 20,000 Linux desktop users reported
| in.
