Yes it is.

What's apparent is that you cannot read.

No, he could not have.

Because he didn't have the Novell-trojanized OpenOffice.

The thing you suggested he use *does* require suse.
Damn, don't you even read the links that you post?
Here is your link again:
http://download.novell.com/SummaryFree.jsp?buildid=ESrjfdE4U58~
At the very top of the page, it shows:

odfconverter-1.0.0-2.oxt 3.6 MB (3867754) download

Clicking on the "view" link for the "Install instructions" above takes you to:
http://www.novell.com/documentation/openwg/esd/di_ooo_openxml_translator.html
Where you see:
<quote>
System Requirements
The OpenOffice.org OpenXML Translator requires the following versions of OpenOffice.org:
* OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 or later Novell edition for Windows
* OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 or later for SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and openSUSE 10.1
* OpenOffice_org-2.0 package for SUSE Linux 9.3 and 10.0
* OpenOffice_org-2.0.4 package for openSUSE 10.2
</quote>
So apparently this is only for the Novellized OOo.
But maybe not. I'll leave it to others to test, since it's likely to be
trojanized.
